Talent Spotlight: Matthew #2

I bet you guys didn't know Matthew has been a Hokie since youth. You know what they say, once a Hokie always a Hokie. With football season only a few days away can you blame me??? Ok, back to the topic at hand. This is Matthew doing a rough cut of True by Glen Philips.

Enjoy!

Mysterious Music

Papa, Nina, Katie, or Matthew... do any of you guys recognize this? This WAV file was included with a bunch of multimedia files from Papa but I haven't a clue who wrote/performed/recorded it. Sounds like it was done on Nina's keyboard but I don't know much else. Uncover the mystery!!!

Catalano Talent Spotlight: Nina #1

My sister Nina is far & away the most talented vocalist of us Catalano's. Here's a recording of her singing "Think of Me" from The Phantom of the Opera. Nina lives in Rome with her husband Pier Luigi and her bunny Lily. I miss her lots :-(** I'll post more of Nina's singing when I get my hands on it.

Catalano Talent Spotlight: Matthew #1

This is a song by John Denver performed by my brother Matthew Catalano. The modified image is not from him performing the song but I thought it was appropriate none the less. As you can see I have a very musically inclined family! Even I sang a lifetime ago. Matthew has written and performed songs with his friend Dante. I will post their music when I can get my hands on it.

Please Pass The French Fries

This is a song written/recorded/produced by Charles Catalano.
(AKA: papa, son,brother,cousin,friend).

The song has a folk/John Denver tone to it. My father always said "I hate country music... but I love John Denver's". Keep in mind that most of the US population would consider Denver country. My family grew up on Denver and I passed up an opportunity to see him in concert about two months before he died in a plane crashed. Bummer.

This is the first of much more multimedia to come on Eklektos. Take a listen and let me know what you think! A bio for Charles will come at a latter date as well as many more recordings.

Grandma's Feather Bed

Thanks to our good friend Brian Creasy myself and about 20 other crazy people went camping on top of Afton mountain just outside of Charlottesville on Saturday. I brought my brand new camera but didn't remember to get it out of my backpack. The weather was what meteorologists would call "friggin' cold". Blustery 50 mph winds with lows in the mid 30's. At least it didn't snow as the weatherman predicted.

We had a good time drinking beer foam (darn keg) and rum/coke and sang songs around the campfire. Brian has known a few John Denver songs for awhile now. You know the oldies? ?Rocky Mountain High?, ?Take Me Home (Country Roads)?, and Annie?s Song? but do you know the GOODIES? I challenged him to learn ?Grandma?s Feather Bed? and boy did he ever respond! Not only did he learn it but he printed out the entire song lyrics for all 20 of us to sing along. It was a ?moment? ? brief, but a heart warming moment for sure.

Chris and Heather could have used an old feather bed that night instead of a thin blanket and backpack for a pillow. I too forgot my pillow but used two packs of leftover hotdog buns. You got to improvise when you?re roughin? it.
