WARNING: This video may be too painful to watch
Here is a clip of the buzzer beater by Bowling Green over Virginia Tech at the NABC Classic on Saturday. I didn't even know at the game that it was Vassallo that accidentally knocked the ball into the basket to hand the Falcons the win.

Comments
Ironically this is not a basket...ball became DEAD the instant time expired and since the defender cannot attempt a try at his opponent's goal, a DEAD ball cannot score.

Yeah, its a real shame. A loss like that can have an impact at the end of the year if we're a bubble team like last year.

This video prompted a lot of discussion on our basketball officials web site forum here in Northern California. I plan on sharing with the rest of our membership (over 100 high school officials) tomorrow evening. The play happens so quickly, it's understandable to a certain degree why the officials apparently got it wrong. Since a "tap" is a try at one's own basket, and the white team (defenderm i.e., not his basket) caused the ball to go in after the horn sounded, the ball becomes immediately dead and the goal should not have counted. It sounds like your conference doesn't have the "upon further review" of video replay.
