Well, my Movable Type migration was a success. I have upgraded to version 3.16 from 2.64. It went off w/o a hitch. The only thing I needed to do was reenter two nice comments (thanks Velvet & possum4all !) I do need to fix the styles for soem of the sub pages such as when you LEAVE A COMMENT <hint>
I have setup a staging site to make these types of endeavors easier. The style sheets for the new site were totally off due to changes in how the html templates are coded. I ended up using the old templates from the previous version. They seem to perform the same so there was no sense in taking the time to completely redesign the site (again). I also had to go back through and change every link in the site to begin w/ the site root instead of relative.
What's in between an absolute link and a relative one? Eg.
http://www.davidcatalano.com/bookshelf.asp <--- absolute link
and
eklektos/bookshelf.asp <--- relative link
so what is this called:
/eklektos/bookshelf.asp <--- (note the preceding "/")
I'm assuming this is also called a relative link but I don't really know. The reason this was necessary is because blog entries are located at different directory (err "folder") levels depending where the users see it.
For example:
viewing an entry from the home page you will be in the site root. Viewing from a category page is one level deep and an individual entry page is two levels deep.
The last change I had to make was to some of the Flash video and audio container swfs. For the Audio container a simple <BASE> tag added to the Object/Embed code did the trick. The video container was a tad more complicated.
Ok, enough geek-speak, I'm glad this techie stuff is over so that I can get back to posting interesting... what I find to be interesting... stuff.
